Mr. Pershing:

Thank for the valuable information regarding filing for Social Security disability benefits. Please allow me, however, to clarify a few items.

First, there is a third option to hiring an attorney or filing on your own. There are a number of professional non-attorney groups, such as Allsup, that provide nationwide representation services. These companies offer a positive alternative to attorneys because most will represent an SSDI claimant beginning at the initial application. Many lawyers will not accept a claim until it has already been denied at least once. I should point out that getting help as soon as possible will not only virtually assure a quicker SSDI award, it can also substantially reduce your fee.

Second, I am unaware of any representative whose fee is a percentage of your benefit for a period of time. The nearly unioversal charge for services is a one-time 25 perent fee of any retroactive, or back, benefits not to exceed $5,300.

Thank you again for providing such valuable information. Feel free to contact me for more information.
